Jar of Monsters
Wondrous Item, Varies
A Jar of Monsters is a sealed glass jar small enough to fit into your pocket. Inside the remains of a shrunken and preserved monster swim in some type of strange liquid. If you use an action to empty the jar the monster becomes a living creature.
The creature is friendly to you and your companions. It understands your languages and obeys spoken commands. If you issue no commands, the creature defends itself but takes no other actions.
The creature exists for a duration specific to each jar. At the end of the duration, the creature reverts to its preserved form. It reverts early if it drops to 0 hit points. When the creature becomes preserved again, its property can't be used until certain conditions have been met, as specified in the jar's description.
Shrunken Hawk (Uncommon). This taxidermied bird can become a hawk for up to 12 hours. Once it has returned to its preserved form it must be placed in a new jar and covered in water. Once these conditions have been met, it cannot be used again until one day has passed. While in hawk form, you are able to cast the animal messenger spell on it at will.
Cured Quasit (Uncommon). This desiccated body can become a Quasit for up to 12 hours. Once it has returned to its preserved form it must be placed in a new jar and covered in sap. Once these conditions have been met, it cannot be used again until two days have passed.
Mummified Grick (Rare). This shrunken and emaciated corpse can become a Grick for up to one hour. Once it has returned to its preserved form it must be placed in a new jar and covered in strong alcohol. Once these conditions have been met, it cannot be used again until three days have passed
Dehydrated Basilisk (Very Rare). This preserved reptile can become a Basilisk for up to thirty minutes. Once it has returned to its preserved form it must be placed in a new jar and covered in poison. Once these conditions have been met, it can't be used again until 5 days have passed.
The Dehydrated Basilisk is difficult to control and has a ten percent chance of turning on you each time you use it.
